Loss and Prevention of Marine Anchors
Release time:2023-06-15
The loss of anchors on a ship is a common occurrence, just like the loss of propeller caps on a ship. Anchors are connected together by anchor shackles and anchor chains, so there are two types of situations where anchors are lost. One is caused by the anchor shackle, and the other is caused by the anchor chain.
1. Caused by anchor shackle
The anchor shackle is made of steel, forged or welded, and has a pin bolt on it. Anchors are usually hung on the outboard side of the bow, and due to long-term impact from strong winds and waves, as well as impact during retraction and release, the pin bolts may become loose and detached. When the anchor bolt disengages, it causes the loss of the anchor.
2. Caused by anchor chains
Due to its prolonged use and severe wear, the anchor chain may break and cause anchor loss when it is thrown onto a hard substrate and the anchor lifting speed is too fast. The loss of ship anchors can be prevented, and the condition of anchor shackles should be carefully checked before the ship sets sail. If there is any looseness, it should be dealt with in a timely manner. The anchor chain should be inspected and replaced on time according to the requirements of the ship's inspection. As long as the above two points are achieved, and the speed when lifting the anchor is appropriate, the anchor will not be lost.
